Art IS imagination! I cannot come up with any other reasons to explain half of the stuff I see. Ever seen Magritte? Some of his stuff is just weird but it's so imaginitive!
Besides, you could argue, fairy stories are the first form of art we see as children. Snow White by Disney is still reguarded as a brilliantly done movie that is close to art in it's style and motion. But how many of us remember it when we were small? Or the illustrations in books? Once again, fairy tales are high on the list.
I love how you've touched on the old saying 'The land the Ruler are one' in this piece. It's nice how you've gone for the Princess rather than a king and I love the romance! It's coming up to Christmas, we should have a bit of winter romance.
I'm glad you haven't gone for the useal snow white horse but went instead for a palamino. The detail of frozen breath coming from the horses is a lovely touch. You might want to have a couple of swirles around the Prince and Princess as well to demonstrate the cold weather but I can see why you avoided that.
The faint touches of Spring behind the couple, showing how the enchantment is at an end is a lovely way toshow magic rather than flashing lights and speacil effects which would also spoil the moment.
I can see this in a book of fairy tales as an illustration for a story. It makes me was to get a blanket and drink a cup of hot chocolate.

And I think you're right! Fairytale stories are like the first kind of art kids truly understand. the message is simple but it's worth telling over and over. That is what is so appealing to me about the old stories. It's precious, you know : )
